Don't get tripped up by your own phone line.  The cons who operate  telemarketing schemes have only one goal.  To get you to pay for product that does not exist, or over pay on product that is worthless.   

Sometimes there isn't a product at all - what is being offered is a bogus service. They will offer services like fixing your credit or getting pre-approved loans.  

ie: Unclaimed bank balance information is  available for free at the Bank of Canada Web site
